Heather Mewshaw, founder of Chesapeake Interpreting, has been serving the Baltimore/ Washington DC area as a professional sign language interpreter since 1999. Heather has obtained three Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) certifications; the Certificate of Interpretation (CI), Certificate of Transliteration (CT) and National Interpreter Certification - Advanced Level (NIC-Advanced). These credentials are the symbol of quality within the interpreting field. She also holds a B.S. degree in Corporate Communications from the University of Baltimore.

Heather can be found interpreting in an array of settings ranging from corporate to medical to community events. She is viewed as a reliable asset who understands the need for effective communication. Outside interpreting, Heather is involved in fostering growth within the sign language interpreting profession as an industry consultant conducting work that ranges from mentoring interpreting students to administering RID certification examinations. Heather's work lends her the ability to stay in touch with the pulse of the interpreting field and gain insight into new trends.

In 2007, Heather founded Chesapeake Interpreting to provide top-notch sign language interpretation services to a larger client base. At Chesapeake interpreting, we do things differently that most other sign language interpretation providers because we believe that our approach is better for our clients. Our approach is designed to take the "task" out of choosing a sign language interpreter. Our goal is to make the whole process effortless.

After working with our clients to ascertain their preferences of interpreters, language and desired dates and hours, we will work to secure an interpreter that meets expectations. Our clients will be notified of the interpreter's name, along with other pertinent information, to confirm their request.
